Advising

Several members of the psychology department faculty serve as undergraduate advisors and are available to talk with students who are majoring or minoring in psychology, as well as those just thinking about it. Students can talk with advisors about requirements, course selections, career choices, and planning an undergraduate program that will best prepare them for whatever they might do next. Undergraduate advisors are also good resources for learning about research in our department and about graduate school options. In addition, advisors can review and sign your Graduation Petition, which you should complete one year prior to your expected graduation.

This website and our major/minor Canvas site provide additional guidance for undergraduate students.

You can schedule an appointment by contacting the Undergraduate Program Assistant in the Psychology main office at 847-491-5190. You can also set up an appointment by stopping by the office in 102 Swift Hall or by emailing psych-advising@u.northwestern.edu.  When you stop by, call, or email, the staff will be able to schedule an appointment with the advisor who is best suited to help you with advising needs.

*During the current circumstances with COVID, please plan to e-mail to set up an appointment rather than stopping by the office or calling.  All advising appointments will be conducted remotely via Zoom.

Graduate study in Psychology. Students considering graduate study in non-clinical areas of psychology should meet with faculty members whose areas of interest are similar to their own.
